What stays on your Mac
Director stores projects, workspaces, threads, messages, settings, and related app state locally on your Mac. Director Support does not receive your repository contents, prompts, transcripts, filenames, or generated code through Director's product analytics. Data leaves your Mac when a feature needs a connected service, when diagnostic reporting runs, when the app checks licenses or updates, or when you deliberately send it to us.
Product analytics
Production builds send product analytics to help us understand reliability and feature usage. Analytics can include a random installation and session identifier; app and build version; macOS version and Mac architecture; session, project, workspace, thread, and feature-use events; model, reasoning effort, service tier, subagent status, turn outcome, and duration; and account profile fields such as your Polar or Codex email, Codex account type and plan, and GitHub login when available.
These analytics do not include prompt text, message content, repository contents, code, filenames, or command output. They are used to operate, secure, debug, and improve Director.
Crash and performance data
Director uses Sentry for crash reporting and performance monitoring. Diagnostic events can include app and device information, IP-derived network information, stack traces, performance traces, breadcrumbs, identifiers, and other context attached to an error. This data helps us diagnose crashes, slow operations, and failed workflows. Sentry processes this information under its Privacy Policy.
Purchases and licensing
Polar acts as merchant of record for Director purchases and handles checkout, payment, taxes, receipts, license delivery, customer-portal access, and device activation. Director Support can receive purchase and license information such as your customer email, order and license status, and activation information. Director does not receive or store your full payment-card details. See Polar's Privacy Policy.
Connected services
Director sends information to a connected service only when needed for a feature you use. Depending on your configuration, this can include prompts, attachments, repository context, account identifiers, issues, pull requests, and audio for transcription. Providers can include:
- OpenAI and Codex for coding-agent requests;
- GitHub and Linear for repository and issue workflows;
- Apple Speech or the transcription provider you select, including Deepgram, ElevenLabs, or Groq.
- plugins, apps, MCP servers, and other tools you choose to enable.
Each provider processes data under its own agreement and privacy policy. Review the provider's settings before connecting sensitive projects or information.
Website and communications
director.sh is hosted by Vercel, which can process standard request information such as IP address, browser and device details, requested pages, timestamps, and security logs. See Vercel's Privacy Notice. The Director website does not use advertising trackers. If you email support or submit your email through a Director form, we receive your address, message, and any information you choose to include so we can respond and provide the requested service.
How information is used and shared
We use information to provide downloads, purchases, licensing, updates, support, connected features, security, diagnostics, and product improvements; to enforce our terms; and to comply with law. We share information with service providers for those purposes, with authorities when legally required, or as part of a business transfer. We do not sell personal information or use it for behavioral advertising.
Retention and security
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes above, including support, security, accounting, dispute, and legal obligations. Retention periods vary by data type and provider. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no storage or transmission method is completely secure.
Your choices and rights
You can disconnect integrations, avoid optional cloud transcription, stop using the app, and remove local Director data from your Mac. You may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information, and to receive a portable copy, depending on where you live. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
To make a privacy request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your request before acting on it.
Children and policy changes
Director is a professional developer tool and is not directed to children under 16. We may update this policy as Director, its providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version.
